Report: Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander out against Lakers on Wednesday

Oklahoma City Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander will reportedly return to the bench for a left knee issue that he has been dealing with over the last week.

Gilgeous-Alexander is listed as out for the Wednesday game against the Los Angeles Lakers on the injury report from the NBA, first reported by Rotoworld. He has a left knee sprain that has been nagging him since he tweaked it in the Feb. 1 game against the Houston Rockets.

The third-year guard missed the games on Feb. 3 and Feb. 5 before returning and playing against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Feb. 6 and the Los Angeles Lakers on Feb. 8.

He was masterful in those two games, posting 29 and 31 points, respectively, while averaging 8.0 rebounds and 8.5 assists over the two contests.

However, Gilgeous-Alexander will miss the game on Wednesday. The Thunder will follow the Lakers game with a matchup against the Denver Nuggets on Friday and Milwaukee Bucks on Sunday.

Head coach Mark Daigneault had previously said the team is “exercising caution” with Gilgeous-Alexander’s injury.

Gilgeous-Alexander is averaging 22.6 points, 6.5 assists and 5.5 rebounds per game this season.

Guard Theo Maledon is also on the injury report due to health and safety protocols. Center Mike Muscala remains out with a concussion.

Isaiah Roby, who has missed the last two games with right foot soreness, does not appear on the injury report, but that is not confirmation he will play. The Thunder will be able to make a decision on Wednesday ahead of the game.
