Report: Texans to sign former Jaguars safety Tashaun Gipson

The Houston Texans have finally got into the thick of free agent signings.

On Tuesday morning, Dianna Russini of ESPN reported that the Texans will be signing former Jacksonville Jaguars safety Tashaun Gipson.

Gipson played with Jacksonville from 2016-18 and started in all 48 games in that span. The Dallas Kimball alumnus recorded 159 combined tackles, six interceptions, 16 pass breakups, and a fumble recovery. Gipson had six solo tackles and an assisted tackle during the Jaguars’ magical playoff in 2017 that was a few plays short of winning the AFC Championship in New England.

The former Wyoming Cowboy went undrafted in 2012 and caught on with the Cleveland Browns, where he had his only Pro Bowl season in 2014 with eight interceptions and 158 return yards and a touchdown.

Houston lost safety Tyrann Mathieu to the Kansas City Chiefs and defensive back Kareem Jackson to the Denver Broncos.
