Report: Texans give center Nick Martin three-year extension

The Houston Texans like what they have seen from center Nick Martin and want to include him in their plans going forward.

According to Field Yates from ESPN, the Texans have signed the former 2016 second-round pick from Notre Dame to a three-year extension worth $33 million with $18.35 million guaranteed. Martin was entering the final year of his rookie deal.

Martin took over for Greg Mancz at center in the 2017 season, starting every one of his 14 games played. In 2018, Martin played a complete 16-game season and started each game.

The brother of Dallas Cowboys All-Pro right guard Zack Martin has been a leader for the Texans’ offensive line, even going so far as to develop cohesion by any means necessary. Barbecues at Martin’s place are a common way for Texans offensive linemen to develop chemistry off the field in the offseason that the unit hopes develops into cohesion on the field.

Martin started the 31st game of his career Monday night in the Texans’ 30-28 loss to the New Orleans Saints at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
