Report: Ryan Day not interested in taking an NFL HC job

The Jacksonville Jaguars are ‘likely’ to move on from current coach Doug Marrone per NFL insider Ian Rapoport, and former Ohio State Urban Meyer is on their list of candidates. Another coach who they reportedly wanted to reach out to was Meyer’s successor at Ohio State, Ryan Day, but according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, he won’t be taking any interviews tied to the NFL.

Day, 41, spent a little time in the NFL serving as a quarterbacks coach for the Philadelphia Eagles (2015) and San Francisco 49ers (2016). While with the 49ers he worked with current Jags interim Trent Baalke, who was the team’s general manager at the time.

Day hasn’t coached in the NFL since then and joined Meyer’s staff in 2017. After spending time on their offensive staff with many titles, he eventually found his way to their head coaching title after Meyer retired after the 2019 season.

With Day turning down NFL offers, it will be interesting to see who else the Jags have on their radar aside from Meyer. With them currently on the field for their season finale with the Indianapolis Colts, it won’t be long before their search begins to really take off.
