Report: Rockets to meet with free agent big man Javale McGee

The Houston Rockets are beginning an offseason that could feature some wholesale changes. They are offering up multiple players in order to clear enough cap space and go after free agent Jimmy Butler and one of those players offered up in trades is center Clint Capela.

If Capela were to be moved, then the Rockets will need a big man to replace him and when free agency begins on Sunday, they will be meeting with a mercurial, but talented, center option.

According to Yahoo! Sports’ Chris Haynes, the Rockets will be meeting with Javale McGee when the free agency period opens up on Sunday evening.

McGee is coming off a very productive season with the Los Angeles Lakers averaging 12 points and 7.5 rebounds with two blocks while playing in 75 games. He’s played 11 seasons in the league and was a member of the Golden State Warriors title teams in 2017 and 2018 so he offers championship experience as well.

He’s still athletic at 31-years old and he can be a factor for this Rockets team even if Capela were to be retained. He’s certainly a guy that should catch the Rockets eye.
