Report: Patriots OT Jared Veldheer intends to retire

New England Patriots offensive tackle Jared Veldheer intends to retire, according to ESPN’s Mike Reiss. He signed with the team just eight days prior to his decision.

Because the Patriots’ presumed starter at left tackle, Isaiah Wynn, is dealing with an Achilles injury from last season, Veldheer figured to have a key role as a depth option — and potentially a starter — at left tackle. Now, they’ll have to look to third-round draft choice Yodny Cajuste and a handful of unproven players at the position.

Veldheer played nine seasons in the NFL with three teams. In 2018, he started 12 games for the Denver Broncos. He entered the league as a third-round pick out of Hillsdale.
