Report: NFL won’t take action against Tyreek Hill this week

The NFL is at an impasse on what they can do with Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill right now.

According to a report from NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, the NFL is not expected to take any action against Hill this week in light of the reopened criminal child abuse case against Hill and his fiancee.

The Chiefs last week suspended Hill from all team activities after Kansas City TV station aired an audio clip of him talking with Crystal Espinal about using a belt on their 3-year-old son. The NFL seems to believe that ban is enough at this juncture of the offseason.

“My understanding is that for the time being that’s going to be enough for the league, and the team and all parties involved as far as what they should do in the immediate future while they continue to gather information,” Garafolo said. “I know people have been talking about the possibility of the commissioner’s exempt list at least by the end of the week. That’s usually something they use when there is more of a pressing thing going on, let’s say the start of the season or the preseason or one of those things.

“In this case as long as he’s not there with the team activities, the league has said there’s really nothing else to stop him from doing right now while we gather information. So I don’t expect anything in the very near future regarding Tyreek Hill and his status with the league.”

The NFL will continue gathering information while working to find out exactly what has happened and how it relates to the NFL’s personal conduct policy. The commissioner’s exempt list could be an option at a later date if the NFL hasn’t finished their investigation by the preseason or regular season.
