Report: Mavericks' Kristaps Porzingis accused of sexual assault in New York

Dallas Mavericks' forward Kristaps Porzingis has been accused of sexual assault from more than a year ago, according to the New York Post.

The allegations were made by a woman who lived in the same building as Porzingis in New York City. The woman claims the assault happened on Feb. 7, 2018, hours after Porzingis tore the ACL in his left knee. He hasn't played in a game since. He was traded from the New York Knicks to the Dallas Mavericks a year later.

Mavericks owner Mark Cuban told the Post via email that the club has been instructed by federal authorities not to comment.

A high-ranking source with the NYPD told the Post that the woman in her 20s is considered credible. She accuses Porzingis of holding her down and raping her, according to a Post source, after she accepted his invitation to his apartment in the Sky building in Midtown West after 2 a.m.

Porzingis' reps said they could not comment about the accusation because they have not seen the police report, according to the Post.

The accuser is "believable," the source said, despite her not reporting the alleged attack until over a year later, and her admission to cops that she discussed getting $68,000 in hush money from him, the Post reported.

The woman told cops she waited over a year to talk to police because Porzingis allegedly promised to give her money to keep her quiet, the sources told the Post. She planned to use it to pay for her brother's college tuition. But then he reneged, a source said.

The Post reported that it's still unclear if any money ever changed hands.
