Report: Kawhi Leonard and Kevin Durant have discussed teaming up

While Los Angeles Lakers fans are currently hyperventilating over the rumors that reigning Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard is seriously considering joining LeBron James and Anthony Davis in LA, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and Ramona Shelburne dropped a news bomb on Saturday morning that has fans losing it on Twitter.

According to the report, Leonard and Kevin Durant – arguably the two best players in the NBA when fully healthy – have talked about potentially playing together in the future. Both players will become free agents on June 30th at 6:00 p.m. ET – and if the pair are serious about forming their own superteam, Knicks fans may finally have reason to celebrate this offseason.

Via ESPN:

“Leonard and Durant are each planning discussions and meetings with several teams, but only the Clippers and Knicks are in alignment with salary-cap space and common interest to sign both players. Brooklyn could conceivably house both, but a more likely scenario would be Durant and point guard Kyrie Irving signing as free agents with the Nets. Brooklyn is firmly Irving’s focus in free agency, league sources said.”

Although Durant has met with Kyrie Irving multiple times about a potential partnership, likely with the Nets or Knicks, a Durant-Kawhi pairing is even scarier to think about – and could be the perfect foil to James and Davis and the Warriors, if Klay Thompson signs a max deal in Golden State as expected.

Knicks fans, naturally, are setting themselves up for crushing disappointment.
