REPORT: Jaguars to release DT Malik Jackson

After a three-year tenure with the Jacksonville Jaguars, it appears Malik Jackson’s time is coming to an end with the team. Per Josina Anderson of ESPN, the Jags will be releasing the defensive tackle in the near future.

Jackson, 29, signed a massive six-year, $85.5 million contract that guaranteed $42 million back in 2016. Since, he started in a total of 42 games for the Jags while accumulating a career total of 105 tackles and 18 sacks while in black and teal. In that process, he also established himself as one of the league’s top interior pass rushers and will obviously have a market when he officially becomes a free agent.

The move to part ways with Jackson is one that’s mostly cap driven as the team would clear $11 million in cap space for 2019 with his release. Additionally, his replacement appears to be on the roster in the Jags’ first-round pick of last season, Taven Bryan.
