Report: Hawks to Hire Quin Snyder As Next Coach

After parting ways with coach Nate McMillan last week, the Hawks moved swiftly in their coaching search and now plan to hire former Jazz coach Quin Snyder to replace him, according to a report from ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Snyder will sign a five-year contract and is expected to be on the sidelines as soon as Tuesday when the Hawks take on the Wizards.

Just after the Hawks let McMillan go, Snyder emerged as the leading candidate for the job, Wojnarowski previously reported. Hawks general manager Landry Fields confirmed at the time that Snyder was a candidate that the franchise was considering, but that there were others in the mix as well.

Talks with Snyder began heating up heading into the weekend, as Fields, assistant general manager Kyle Korver and owner Tony Ressler engaged in discussions with the former Jazz coach regarding “philosophical and team building items” and how he would approach the position moving forward.

Snyder is a former assistant in Atlanta, having previously coached on the staff of Mike Budenholzer during the 2013–14 season before being hired in Utah as the head coach. In eight seasons with the Jazz, Snyder recorded a 372–264 record and took Utah to the playoffs six times.

Snyder resigned from his position with the Jazz at the end of last season and was seen as one of the top coaches on the market before landing with Atlanta.
