Report: Giants to release LB Tae Davis

The New York Giants continued working the phones on Tuesday ahead of the NFL trade deadline, but as 4:00 p.m. and the end of the league day crept up, general manager Dave Gettleman was unable to get anymore deals done.

Still, with the acquisition of defensive end Leonard Williams on Monday, a corresponding roster move had to be made and that will come by way of linebacker Tae Davis.

Art Stapleton of North Jersey and the USA TODAY Sports Network reports that Davis will be released.

A Week 1 starter, Davis rapidly fell out of favor with the Giants and saw his snap count decrease substantially throughout the year, giving way to players such as Ryan Connelly and David Mayo.

After appearing in 14 games for the Giants a season ago, Davis saw action in just four this year, missing two weeks as the result of a concussion, recording six tackles and one quarterback pressure.

Davis was in the second year of a three-year contract and will save the Giants only a minimal amount against the cap and account for roughly $1,650 in dead cap.
