The New York Giants will be without several key players in Sunday’s preseason finale against the New England Patriots, including running back Saquon Barkley.
Tight end Kyle Rudolph and wide receiver Kenny Golladay have also been officially ruled out.
But that trio will not be alone. Tom Rock of Newsday reports that rookie wide receiver Kadarius Toney, who’s had a very strange start to his NFL career, will be forced to sit out against the Patriots as well.
That’s the bad news. The good news is that Rock also reports that the Giants are optimistic Toney will be ready for a Week 1 game against the Denver Broncos.

Toney has seen very little action since being taken in the first round of April’s draft. He suffered through a cleat issue and minor injury during rookie minicamp before skipping later practices due to an unsigned contract. He briefly left the team following a death in the family and then landed on the COVID-19 list.
Over the past few weeks, the Giants have referred to Toney’s situations as exactly that — “situations.”
With Toney also riding the pine on Sunday night, third-year quarterback Daniel Jones will be without four of his top seven playmakers. The team could also be missing a piece or two along the offensive line.
