Report: Giants re-sign Russell Shepard to one-year deal

The New York Giants will bring back wide receiver and special teams ace Russell Shepard for at least one more year, reports Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News.

Confirmation of Shepard’s one-year deal comes shortly after Shepard himself announced he’d be returning to East Rutherford in 2019 via Instagram.

Shepard was an underrated veteran presence in the locker-room as well as on the field last season. He flashed a few times offensively, while also contributing to a special trams unit that made a massive turnaround in 2018.

In 12 games, Shepard hauled in 10 receptions for 188 yards and two touchdowns. One of those scores came off the arm of former wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., who threw two touchdowns of his own last season.

On special teams, Shepard contributed as a gunner, recording four solo tackles (six total) over the course of his 12 games.

Shepard is also capable of being used as a kick returner, but the Giants seem to be content with Jabrill Peppers and others taking on that role in 2019.

Financial details of Shepard’s one-year deal have not yet been released.
