Report: Ex-Titans CB Malcolm Butler visiting with Texans

After a brief retirement in 2021, former Tennessee Titans cornerback Malcolm Butler is attempting to return to the NFL, and that road to a comeback will begin in Houston with the Texans.

According to Aaron Wilson of Pro Football Network, Butler is visiting with the Titans’ AFC South rival on Friday.

Butler, who signed a one-year, $3.25 million deal with the Arizona Cardinals last offseason, decided to hang up his cleats last August due to personal reasons before ever taking a snap for his new team.

The 32-year-old spent three seasons in Nashville after signing a massive five-year, $61.25 million deal in 2018. Butler’s overall tenure in Nashville was solid overall, but was simply too rich for Tennessee’s blood, leading to his being cut in 2021.

Butler would actually be a great fit for the Titans in 2022 seeing as how the team could use a veteran insurance policy (if Janoris Jenkins gets cut) for Caleb Farley, who is coming back from a torn ACL.

However, it’s doubtful Butler would want to settle for what could be a reserve role, which is what it would be if Farley pans out. The Texans are one team that can offer him a better opportunity to start than the Titans can.
