It’s unclear how long it will take for actual changes to come for Washington as far as removing the old name and logo from their uniforms, stadiums, and merchandise goes. However, that change is happening quickly on CGI, as it was reported on Friday that Electronic Arts (EA) would be removing both from the upcoming Madden 21 video game.
According to ESPN, both the former team name and logo will be removed from the game after the decision was made to change the name going forward in Washington.
“We are pleased to see Washington’s decision to change their team name and visual identity,” an EA representative said in a statement. “We are quickly working to update Madden NFL 21 to feature a generic Washington team, while we await final word on the updated team name and logo design.”
When buyers pick up the physical copy of the game, it will feature the old nickname and logo because discs are already in production, but those assets will be patched out of the game automatically if a user connects the system to the internet.
As soon as a new name is decided on, a plan to implement that name and logo around the stadium and team will surely be put into place.
