Report: DT Gerald McCoy receiving offers as high as $11M

The Indianapolis Colts are among the teams with noted interest in free agent defensive tackle Gerald McCoy, who has already garnered offers from clubs around the league.

If the Colts want to bring McCoy into the defensive line rotation, they are likely going to have to pay up. The 31-year-old is reportedly receiving “overwhelming” interest and some offers from teams have been reported as high as $11 million per year, per Rick Stroud of The Tampa Bay Times.

It hasn’t been made clear if the Colts have reached out with an offer to McCoy nor is it clear what type of money they would be offering the six-time Pro Bowler.

The Colts aren’t going to get into a bidding war for any free agent. General manager Chris Ballard has made that clear since the first day he took over operations of the team.

The money shouldn’t be an issue for the Colts, though. They have the most salary cap space in the league sitting with just over $57.5 million, per Over The Cap.

McCoy would be a fantastic addition to both the defensive line rotation and the locker room. The Colts might view him as a luxury, though, which is another reason not to expect them engaging in a bidding war.

Which team McCoy winds up with remains to be seen, but it appears he will be paid handsomely wherever he goes.
