Report: Contract talks between Vikings, Dalvin Cook have broken off

Vikings running back Dalvin Cook reported for training camp this year despite no announcement of a new deal.

That’s significant because earlier in the offseason, it was reported that Cook would hold out from team-related activities until he received such a deal. That ended up not being the case. Cook had told the Star Tribune and other outlets recently that his agent, Zac Hiller, and the Vikings have been working hard on an extension.

But now, according to a report from Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, contract talks have now broken off between the two parties.

“Talks could restart later, of course. But for now, Cook has said he’s focused on Week 1 as he enters last year of his rookie deal, with franchise tag looming in 2021,” Pelissero said on Twitter.

Cook was undeniably a big part of a Vikings team that made the playoffs last season. In 2019, Cook had 1,135 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns, both of which were career highs.
