Report: Chiefs don’t have any new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday

After a significant COVID-19 outbreak over the past two days, the Kansas City Chiefs got some good news on Wednesday.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Chiefs’ testing came back clean on Wednesday, with no new positive COVID-19 test results. Since Monday, the team had added 12 players to the Reserve/COVID-19 list, both from the 53-man roster and the practice squad. That group includes some of the team’s biggest stars like Travis Kelce and Tyreek Hill. Kansas City already had four players on the list ahead of this week’s rash of cases too.

The players currently on the Reserve/COVID-19 list will all have a chance to test out of the league’s COVID protocols ahead of the team’s Week 16 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. There are a few ways to test out under the new guidelines, but the biggest change is that vaccinated players who are not experiencing symptoms can return to play with just one negative COVID-19 PCR test result. Before they were required to have two negative tests taken 24 hours apart.

While it’s good news that there appears to be no active spread of COVID-19 today, it won’t help the team when it comes to any potential delay of their Week 16 game against the Steelers. The league rescheduled three games this past week under the advice of medical professionals to help limit spread among teams with current outbreaks.

With three more days of testing to go ahead of the game, a lot can change for Kansas City in a short time. Activations from the Reserve/COVID-19 list should be coming, but new cases could also arise too.
