Report: Chargers remain interested in Urban Meyer as Jags await a decision on vacancy

Another day passed without the Jacksonville Jaguars naming a head coach or general manager Tuesday. Per NFL insiders Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo,  the reason for that is because Urban Meyer has yet to decide on if he wants to take the job, or any NFL coaching vacancy for that matter.

If the wait wasn’t already concerning, Rapoport reported that the Jags have some competition in the Meyer sweepstakes late Wednesday morning. That team is the Los Angeles Chargers, who parted ways with coach Anthony Lynn Monday.

While the Chargers interest in Meyer isn’t necessarily a reason to panic, it should be concerning. Some would argue that they may be a better option than the Jags because they already have a franchise quarterback (Justin Herbert), receiver (Keenan Allen), and pass-rusher (Joey Bosa) in place. That said, if Meyer wants a situation that would be less stressful in the immediate future, then the Chargers may be a better option.

As time passes, concerns will only grow for the Jags in terms of finding a coaching solution. However, if the Jags want to name a general manager first, the argument could be made that there are great available solutions.

With the assets the Jags have, there is undoubtedly interest from other coaches as the team is now past the one-week mark since Doug Marrone’s firing. With that being the case, fans are wondering: How long is too long to wait for such an attractive job offer?”
