Report: Cardinals to sign veteran RB Alfred Morris

The Arizona Cardinals are adding some depth at running back. After having to rely solely on Chase Edmonds on Sunday against the New York Giants, the Cardinals are reportedly adding Afred Morris.

The report comes from ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Morris had a reported visit in September but did not sign then. The team also reportedly brought in Jay Ajayi and Spencer Ware this week. Morris apparently was more impressive.

David Johnson is still nursing an ankle injury and D.J. Foster is dealing with a hamstring injury. According to head coach Kliff Kingsbury, both are day-to-day.

Morris last played for the San Francisco 49ers in 2018 and rushed for 428 yards and two touchdowns in 12 games, averaging 3.9 yards per attempt.

He is a three-time 1,000-yard rusher in his career but has been only a part-time player since 2015.

His presence appears to be more about David Johnson than D.J. Foster. Foster only played on special teams. Morris has only played 13 special teams snaps in his career.
