Report: Broncos appear unlikely to get into bidding war for Matt Paradis

Denver Broncos center Matt Paradis suffered a fractured right fibula last season and though he is well ahead of schedule in his recovery, the team appears ready to move in a different direction.

KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis reported earlier this week that the Broncos appear poised to let Paradis test the free agent market, which may be a sign that Denver is willing to let him sign with another team.

During free agency last year, center Ryan Jensen signed a four-year deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers that averaged $10.5 million per season and included $22 million guaranteed.

KMGH-TV’s Troy Renck reported Wednesday that “it appears unlikely” the Broncos would get into a bidding war for Paradis if he draws the same kind of interest Jensen did. With that being the case, Paradis’ chances of returning to the Broncos this season seem to be slim.

Paradis was selected by Denver in the sixth round of the 2014 NFL draft out of Boise State. After spending his rookie season on the practice squad, Paradis won the team’s starting center job in 2015, a position he held for 57-straight games before suffering a season-ending injury in 2018.

Connor McGovern started in the place of an injured Paradis last year and he may be the team’s backup plan if Paradis leaves in free agency. McGovern has experience at both guard and center, earning 20 starts over the last two years.
