Report: Boston’s Yam Madar may sign with Partizan Belgrade for 2021-22

It seems that more than a few teams in Europe are interested in getting Yam Madar on their roster next season if it turns out the Boston Celtics are not, per Omri Manhime of Sport 5. With established veteran point guard Dennis Schroder inking a team-friendly deal with Boston at almost the same time a groin injury caused Madar to miss key games in Las Vegas Summer League to sell himself on the Celtics’ brass, it seems unlikely Madar will join Boston’s roster next season.

But fresh of the heels of reports that the Israeli floor general has a potential spot with Ratiopharm Ulm in Germany comes news that a chance to play under top European coach Zeljko Obradovic while joining Partizan Belgrade on a long-term deal. Per Sports Rabbi’s Josh Halickman, the EuroCup team is working to join Euroleague play.

Manhime also reports that Partizan Belgrade will pay a $250,000 buyout that prevented the Celtics from opting to add Madar on a two way contract.

This doesn’t mean that the Beit Dagan native’s future with the Celtics is over, given the team could elect to buy out his contract with whatever team Madar elects to play with next season at its conclusion given they still hold his NBA rights.

But it is looking all but certain he will not be playing for Boston in 2021-22 barring a most surprising series of events.
