Report: 49ers set to re-sign QB Josh Rosen

The 49ers are set to add another quarterback to their offseason roster. NFL Media’s Mike Garafolo on Sunday reported Josh Rosen will return to the 49ers after finishing out the season with the club.

Rosen is set to be an exclusive rights free agent which means the 49ers will need to tender a contract for him, at which point he won’t be able to negotiate with other clubs.

San Francisco added Rosen off the Buccaneers practice squad last season when QB Nick Mullens went down with a season-ending elbow injury and QB Josh Johnson was on the COVID-19 list. Rosen was up with the active roster but never saw game action.

The Arizona Cardinals took Rosen No. 10 overall in the 2018 draft. He went 3-11 as a starter in his first season, including two wins over the 49ers. The Cardinals weren’t satisfied with what they saw from Rosen in 14 starts and drafted Kyler Murray No. 1 overall the following year. They eventually traded Rosen to the Dolphins where he went 0-3 in three starts.

In 20 career games with 16 starts, Rosen has thrown for 2,845 yards, 12 touchdowns and 19 interceptions.

He’s the second quarterback the 49ers have added this offseason along with QB Josh Johnson. Neither move is likely to preclude San Francisco from making other additions at that position in either free agency or through the draft.
