Report: ’30-for-30′ documentary in the works for the 2012 James Harden trade

According to Dave Hardisty of Clutch Fans, ESPN is currently in the process of producing a ’30-for-30′ style documentary on the famous trade that brought James Harden to the Houston Rockets.

As a reminder, the trade was made because the Oklahoma City Thunder could not come to an agreement in extension talks with the then 23-year-old guard. Consequently, Harden was traded to the Rockets in exchange for guards Kevin Martin and Jeremy Lamb, two first-round picks and a second-round pick.

This trade was obviously monumental for the fortunes of both the Thunder and the Rockets so it makes sense that a documentary would eventually be made about this. However, it is a bit shocking that it is being made so soon as all the major players in the trade (Rockets GM Daryl Morey, Thunder GM Sam Presti, and Harden himself) are still in the NBA.

Harden went on to be a seven-time All-Star and an MVP with the Rockets and the trade catapulted Houston to seven consecutive playoff appearances, five 50-win seasons, and two Western Conference Finals. The trade is also arguably one of the reasons the Thunder were not able to retain star forward Kevin Durant. It also sent massive shock waves throughout the league and altered the course of NBA history in a dramatic way.

The details of how the trade went down have never really been fully-fleshed out so this documentary will certainly be a must-watch for any NBA fan.
