It has been 463 days since Dan Repacholi was announced on the Australian shooting team for Tokyo.
The best part of the last seven months spent away from his Cessnock home, missing wife Alex and daughters Zoe and Asha while travelling to training camps up and down the east coast.
And all with one goal in mind - an Olympic medal.
Now, amid the ongoing global coronavirus pandemic which saw the event postponed in 2020 and constantly questioned ever since, it's down to sporting business and Repacholi has the number in mind to make his lifelong dream a reality.
Representing his country at a fifth straight Games, he kick starts his campaign in the men's 10 metre air pistol on Saturday with qualifiers (2pm, AEST), hopefully, followed by an appearance in the final (4:30pm).
The 39-year-old feels confident about equaling, or bettering, his personal best score at what marks a return to international competition.
"My aim is to go and shoot 586 plus and if I do that it'll put me in the top area of making that final," Repacholi told the Newcastle Herald.
"It just depends, but anything above 580 is usually in the right area - 586 you'll be in the top area, 583 or 584 you'll be in the middle area, 580 you'll be right on the edge and you may make it or you may not.
"With the work I'm currently doing, I'm shooting well and truly good enough to be able to do that 586 plus and into the 90s as well."
There are 38 competitors, hailing from almost 30 different nations, listed for Repacholi's division with only eight progressing to the decider.
Having landed in the Japanese capital this week, following an extended stay in Brisbane, Repacholi posted on social media on Friday.
"This [Olympic medals] is what it's all about. All the hard work and sacrifices will be on show for the world to see. I'm ready baby," he said.
The Australian Olympic Committee recently released a message of support from Repacholi's two children with a seat highlighted in what will be an empty grandstand in Tokyo.
"Go Dad! We hope you do awesome in your fifth Olympics. We love you so much," Zoe and Asha said.
Federal member for Hunter Joel Fitzgibbon wrote on Friday: "Best wishes in Tokyo to Cessnock's own Daniel Repacholi".
His best Olympic finish for this event was 28th at London in 2012.
He also contested the 50m air pistol at four previous Games, but it's no longer part of the program.
The three-time Commonwealth champion returns to Asaka Shooting Range on Tuesday (10am) for the newly introduced mixed 10m air pistol.
