Renfrewshire high school is the latest to be hit by coronavirus crisis

Paisley’s Castlehead High is the latest school to be hit by the coronavirus, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde has confirmed.

The health board revealed in a letter to parents last night that pandemic trace and protect experts have been carrying out investigations into a case at the school.

It is not currently clear if the infected person is a child or member of staff.

Castlehead is the first secondary school to be impacted by the virus since the schools reopened last week.

However three other primaries - Todhom Primary in Paisley, Wallace Primary in Elderslie and St James’ Primary in Renfrew - confirmed coronavirus positive cases within 48 hours.

NHS officials say those who have been in close contact with the infected individuals at school have been contacted and asked to self isolate for 14 days.

And the health board is still saying it is safe for all other children to attend lessons as usual.

Education chiefs are however reminding parents not to send their children to school if they - or anyone in their household - is showing any symptoms of Covid-19.

These include a new and persistent cough, high temperature or fever and loss of taste and smell.

The person showing symptoms should self-isolate and be tested as soon as possible.
