The dancer triumphed over Brendan Cole and Kimberly Wyatt - who placed third - in a closely fought final, which saw all the three remaining celebrities receive multiple perfect scores of 40 out of 40.

The show's judges - Jayne Torvill, Christopher Dean, Oti Mabuse and Ashley Banjo - offered their verdicts on the remaining three, but it was up to the viewers at home to pick their eventual winner.

Speaking after their win was announced, Regan was mainly speechless but was able to admit he couldn't believe he'd won.

Speaking after it was revealed they'd be leaving, Kimberly said: "Thank you so much, this has been such a beautiful experience."

While the intense training may have been a strain on some of the competitors' marriages and family life, Kimberly admitted that the programme added a “spark” back into her marriage to Max Rogers.

“You know, Max fell in love with me because he saw me on stage dancing and he was just, like . . . he loves what I do,” she told The Sun .

“So to re-spark that love and remind us of where we started . . . as hard as this experience [Dancing On Ice] could be on a marriage, my husband has been unbelievable and supportive, and I can’t wait to run back into his arms and when the final is over, sort of respark our lives.”

This year’s celebrities took to the ice for the first time on Sunday January 16 after weeks of gruelling training with her professional partners.

Rugby champ Ben Foden was the first to be evicted from the ice skating show, while Pussycat Dolls’ Kimberly Wyatt, 40, Strictly’s Brendan Cole, 45, and 26 year old Regan Gascoigne made it all the way to the final.

Kimberly was paired with Mark Hanretty, Brendan with Vanessa Bauer, who won the show in 2018, and Regan was with Karina Manta.

The trio of finalists have had to defend themselves against claims of a fix, as all three have professional dancing backgrounds.

Regan is a trained dancer, Brendan appeared on Strictly Come Dancing as a professional for several years and Kimberly is best known for being part of the Pussycat Dolls.

"If we were all the same, would that not make for a really dull show?" Brendan said as he defended fix claims, "It just so happened that the three of us have got dance experience and we are all now pushing each other to do the most incredible television."

Whilst Kimberley added: "You’re never going to convince everybody that you deserve to be there or don’t deserve to be there.

"Ultimately, we’ve all gone out there and done our best to create the best series ever and I think we are going into what could be the best final ever – because of the three of us. I've been really grateful for my dance background."
