Redskins without a Monday Night Football game for first time since 1999

The 2020 NFL schedule was released for all 32 teams on Thursday night, and one of the biggest notes for the Washington Redskins was that they play all but one of their games on Sunday, outside of the Primetime Monday Night or Sunday Night Football slots.

The one game that they do play on a Thursday will come on Thanksgiving Day, where they will travel to Dallas to face the Cowboys.

The Redskins are not featured in a Monday Night Football game for the first time since 1999, and it comes with pretty good reason this year. The hard truth of it is, if you go 3-13 in one year, you likely shouldn’t be on national television very much the following year. Fans in D.C. may want to watch the team play, but the NFL at large probably has little interest in what’s going on outside of Chase Young highlights, and that’s understandable.

If the Redskins can escape the 2020 season with a decent record and prove that they are worth the time, I’m sure they will get back onto the Monday Night Football schedule once again in 2021.
