Redskins sign former Colts TE Hale Hentges

The Washington Redskins signed former Indianapolis Colts tight end Hale Hentges, the team announced Monday.

Hentges was an undrafted free agent with the Colts following the 2019 NFL draft. He gained popularity after having a strong preseason that earned him the fourth spot in the tight end room behind Jack Doyle, Eric Ebron and Mo Alie-Cox.

A blocking-first tight end, Hentges was a reliable pass-catcher during the preseason and while the Colts valued his skill set, they waived him on Saturday to make room for cornerback Shakial Taylor—who was called up from the practice squad.

The Colts wanted to bring Hentges back after his release, but the Redskins scooped him up before they could do so.
