Redskins Mock Draft: Washington takes versatile CB after Chase Young

Though Washington Redskins fans may be a bit bored by 2020 free agency so far, there is always the NFL Draft to look forward to. And in it, the second pick is still there for the Redskins to do what they want with.

Of course, the obvious answer is to draft Ohio State’s Chase Young, a generational pass-rusher that is believed to be the best defensive prospect in years. It would be hard for the Redskins to pass up on Young, though he doesn’t exactly fill a need that they have. Luke Easterling, at USA TODAY’s DraftWire, agrees.

This is another no-brainer pick. Unless Washington gets a huge offer from a QB-needy team trying to jump ahead of everyone else on the board, this has to be the selection. Young is the best overall prospect in this year’s class, which makes him a steal anywhere else but No. 1 overall.

After the first round, though, Washington is forced to sit out a round due to their trade up for Montez Sweat in 2019. In the third round, DraftWire pegged the Redskins to select CB Bryce Hall, from the University of Virginia. Hall is a speedy pass-defender who thrives when the ball is in the air, but he is said to struggle a bit when it comes to defending in man coverage.

Drafting a young CB would go a long way to adding depth to the secondary in Washington, and they could work to mold Hall into a playmaker for the future as well.
