Redskins make Oklahoma State EDGE Jordan Brailford 2019 draft’s second-to-last pick

A year removed from picking Mr. Irrelevant Trey Quinn, the Washington Redskins had the second-to-last pick in the 2019 NFL draft.

They gave Oklahoma State edge defender Jordan Brailford the honor of landing in the spot.

Brailford is a workhorse of a player who could end up playing his way into a roster spot if the scheme fit treats him well.

Here’s the takeaway from NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein: “Brailford’s measurables fall a little short of NFL edge standards and his movement is more linear than lateral which creates limitations in space. He operates with decent play strength and hand violence, and he offers enough upfield rush for teams to work with. He’s a likely middle round backup with special teams value, whose ceiling could be pushed higher by additional coaching.”

The Redskins had already hit an edge spot earlier in the draft via the first-round trade up for Montez Sweat. But more depth is never a bad thing at this juncture.

While Brailford doesn’t appear to have a ton of upside, a strong defensive staff in Washington might be able to move it north with enough work. Brailford isn’t Quinn by any means, but he should come in and compete this summer.
