Let’s start off by saying that, simply because a team says that they discussed something doesn’t mean that it was close to happening.
For instance, let’s say your friend leaned over to you at lunch one day and whispered, “Hey, do you want to rob a bank?” The answer is obviously no, but if he were to be questioned about people he talked to about the crime, technically, he could say that he discussed it with you, and he wouldn’t be lying.
So when the Washington Redskins say that they ‘discussed’ a potential trade for Cam Newton, a former MVP quarterback who took Ron Rivera and the Carolina Panthers to the Super Bowl years back, you should take it with a grain of salt.
According to ESPN’s Josina Anderson, the Redskins have been monitoring Newton’s situation in Carolina — the team said they agreed on parting ways, but Newton later recanted and said he was not part of that decision — and will take a ‘wait and see’ approach.
So, do you want to go rob a bank?
“I think I’ll wait and see. If the government makes robbing banks legal in the near future, I’ll get back to you.”
Take things with a grain of salt, and know that now, with Rivera in the top leadership role, you can feel comfortable relying on the Redskins to not make the stupid roster moves that could handicap them down the road.
