Redrow gets ready to start back on building sites

Housebuilder Redrow and car giant Volkswagen on Monday joined the list of companies outlining plans to get back to work after lockdown.

FTSE 250 firm Redrow, led by John Tutte, said it is looking to get sites ready for work, with robust social distancing measures in place, from May 11. There will be a phased return to construction from May 18.

While the Government never formally ordered building sites to close, most shut in March due to the difficulty of observing social distancing.

Since then bosses have been working on plans to work with the guidelines, and last week Taylor Wimpey and Bovis Homes’ owner Vistry announced plans to restart on sites.

Redrow today added that home reservations have been low as buyers have been told by the Government, where possible, to delay moving.

In Germany, Volkswagen has resumed work at its biggest factory in Wolfsburg on a smaller scale.
