Red Arrows fly-over past Bristol CANCELLED due to bad weather

A planned Red Arrows flight across the Bristol Channel has been cancelled due to bad weather.

The RAF display team was set to perform the flypast from Cardiff to mark VJ Day (Victory over Japan), which is when Japan surrendered during the Second World War and ultimately brought it to an end.

The planes had been expected to pass through Somerset this afternoon, offering people in the region at glimpse of the iconic red jets.

A map of the flight path was shared by the Red Arrows on Twitter today.

However, 'very poor weather conditions' has resulted in the cancellation of the South West route.

The planes did make it across the Irish Sea for the Shuttleworth Magnificent Musical Flying Display Drive-in to commemorate the occasion.

The Red Arrows said on Twitter at 1.16pm: "Unfortunately, the planned flypast of #Cardiff will not be going ahead this afternoon due to the very poor weather conditions in the area.

"However, the #RedArrows are still expecting to carry out the next scheduled #VJDay75 flypast, which is of #Belfast."
