HYDERABAD: There’s some respite in sight for residents of North Telangana with IMD downgrading the red alert to orange from Sunday morning. With this, districts of Adilabad, Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal and Nizamabad will be in orange alert zone, while the rest in yellow alert.
“Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected only in one or two places in the north, northeast and northwest districts of Telangana. The red warning will remain till Sunday morning,” said K Nagaratna, IMD Hyderabad chief.
However, northern and eastern districts of Telangana faced nature’s fury on intervening nights of Friday and Saturday, with highest rainfall recorded in Navipet in Nizamabad, where 234mm rain was seen followed by Mudhole in Nirmal with 203.3mm and Bheemgal in Nizamabad with 163mm of rain. The district by itself clocked a cumulative average rainfall of 115.6mm, the highest in the state, followed by Warangal (Rural) with 71.1mm average rainfall and Jayshankar Bhupalpally with 70.6mm. On Saturday, the temperature dropped by -7.5 degrees Celsius, with the highest recorded at 24 degrees Celsius. The lowest temperature recorded is at 21 degrees Celsius in Hyderabad, second coldest in the state.
