A US recruitment firm has faced a backlash over an job advert asking for a "preferably Caucasian" candidate.

Cynet Systems wrote in the job description: “Preferably Caucasian who has good technical knowledge of RPA.”

The firm were promoting an account manager role on job networks including LinkedIn, Zip Recruiter and Glassdoor.

It has since removed the job listing and those responsible had their positions “terminated immediately”, according to the firm.

Cynet Systems’ CEOs Nikhil Budhiraja and Ashwani Mayur are both Indian-American.

Helena McCabe, a coder based in Florida said: “How could you POSSIBLY think that’s ok?”

Another commenter said on Twitter: “You’re a STAFFING firm. You put this ad up and you’re a professional staffing consultancy?”

In a statement, co-CEO Ashwani Mayur said: “We truly regret the fact that individuals formerly employed by Cynet Systems went outside of company policy and included an inappropriate requirement in a job listing.

“Cynet Systems is proud to be an immensely diverse company.”

A post on the company Twitter account also said: “Cynet apologises fo the anger and frustration caused by the offensive job post.”
