A record-breaking 159 bids were made for a substantial Wirral property which went under the hammer at auction.
A fierce bidding war broke out for the eight-bedroom New Brighton property, which was advertised as having huge scope for conversion.
It had a guide price of £175,000 and eventually sold for more than twice that at £381,000.
The home is located in an elevated position in Victoria Road and so enjoys sweeping views over Liverpool Bay.
The number of bidders was a record for Wirral-based auctioneers Smith and Sons.
In addition to this property, other lots which exceeded expectation were land and garages on Seabank Road in Wallasey, which sold for £133,500 against a guide of £70,000.
Meanwhile, a semi-detached house needing refurbishment on Old Bidston Road in Birkenhead sold for £52,250 - again, more than double the guide price of £25,000.
Chris Johnson, auctioneer at Smith and Sons commented: "This was an outstanding auction in terms of sales, interest and levels of activity.
"It also shows the popularity of traditional auctions currently being held online, there being no downside to the departure from the usual room auctions due to the need for social distancing."
