Reckless gunman opens fire on home 'with children inside'

A gunman opened fire on a home decorated with children's drawings supporting the NHS.

In a display of horrific recklessness shots were fired at a property despite the prospect children were inside.

No-one was injured but the attack left bullet holes clearly visible in the front door of the Walton home.

Armed police were scrambled to Finborough Road just before midnight on Saturday after being alerted to a possible shooting.

On arrival, they discovered a property that had been damaged by gunfire.

People were inside the semi-detached home at the time, but no-one was injured.

Police remained at the scene throughout Sunday morning and forensics officers were seen examining the area.

Two bullet holes were clearly visible in the front door.

The attack happened despite children's drawings being pinned in a front window of the home.

They included a rainbow and a sign for the NHS against a rainbow background, both popular drawings to show support for medical staff battling on the frontline against coronavirus.

The attack comes just days after a separate shooting highlighted the potentially devastating consequences of firing at properties.

Earlier the week 20-year-old Michael Rainsford was killed after being struck by a bullet fired through the window of his Litherland home.

There is no suggestion the incident in Walton is linked.

On Good Friday shots were also fired at two homes and a car in Wirral and two men were yesterday arrested in connection with the incident.
