‘Really good start’ for new Seahawks receiver Daniel Williams

The Seattle Seahawks made a small change at their wide receiver position last week, cutting injured receiver Caleb Scott and replacing him with Daniel Williams.

Williams went undrafted in the 2017 NFL draft and has yet to play a down in the NFL – although he has spent time with the Raiders, Redskins, Jets, and Browns following a record-setting career at Jackson State University.

Coach Pete Carroll is excited about Williams’ strength and his ability to change direction well for a guy his size (six-foot-three, 200 pounds).

“He’s a nice catcher,” Carroll went on. “Big, big receiver, and he’s gotten down the field real well. Really good start and really excited for him to come out here.”

Williams clearly has a long road ahead of him to crack Seattle’s 53-man roster. The team has 13 receivers, and will probably only keep five or six active on game day. With a trio of returning veterans (Tyler Lockett, David Moore, and Jaron Brown) and three new rookies (DK Metcalf, Gary Jennings, and John Ursua) in the mix – along with Amara Darboh, Keenan Reynolds, Malik Turner, Jazz Ferguson and Terry Wright – the path to earn a roster spot is a murky one.

Williams has the size that Carroll likes in his x-receivers, but he’ll have to really step up to find himself with the Seahawks beyond September 1.
