Real Sociedad manager Imanol Alguacil has demanded a reality check after the reaction to his side's defeat against Manchester United.
The La Liga side were thrashed 4-0 by United on Thursday night as the two teams met in the first-leg of their Europa League round of 32 tie.
A brace from Bruno Fernandes and goals from Marcus Rashford and Daniel James secured the win as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side preyed upon their opponents high defensive line.
Sociedad have been heavily criticised for their performance by the Spanish media, but manager Alguacil believes the reaction has been over the top considering the immense quality of their opposition.
“It seems like a relative of mine has died with all the messages that have reached me," he told a press conference ahead of the La Liga clash with Alaves. "We have lost against Manchester United.
“If we want to be in Europe every year, what we have to do is get up, take responsibility and show that it was a bad game… we are facing one of the best teams in the world, we believed we were going to be able to face them in our own way.”
Following on from his initial comments the manager added that if people truly believed Sociedad were on the same level as United: “We are losing our minds.”
