Real Madrid completed the Fifa Club World Cup semi-final line-up, making difficult what looked to be an easy passage against Borussia Dortmund.
Gonzalo Garcia opened the scoring with his fourth goal of the tournament, as he providing the finish touch to a neat move. His side-footed finish into the bottom corner on 10 minutes continued his run as top goalscorer in the USA.

It was just nine minutes when Fran Garcia got in on the act. Ex-Liverpool man Trent Alexander-Arnold showed a bit of trickery to work his way through the Dortmund box before laying the ball over to his fellow wing-back.
F. Garcia snook in without being detected by the German side’s defence, and swept the ball home to double the advantage coolly.
Jude Bellingham, denied a faceoff against his brother Jobe because of the Dortmund newboy’s suspension, should have added a third before the break against his former club. He fired wide at the end of a swift Real counter-attack.
It was a much slower second-half, with the highlights courtesy of those coming off the bench. Kylian Mbappe, who was returning from his bout of illness, got involved immediately, while Luka Modric tested the Dortmund shot-stopper Gregor Kobel.
That was until added time. Maximilian Beier pulled one back with a neat finish to capitalise on a defensive error, before Mbappe quickly restored the two-goal buffer with some acrobatics.
Former Bournemouth defender was sent off moments later for taking down the last man, with Serhou Guirassy’s obliging from the spot.
Thibaut Courtois was called into making a stunning save well beyond the five minutes signalled at the end of the 90, finally calling an end to what was looking to be a routine win before a manic five minutes.
Xabi Alonso’s side booked a date with PSG in the semi-finals after their drama-filled 2-0 triumph over Bayern Munich earlier in the day. Chelsea face Fluminense in the other semi-final.
Real Madrid had defeated Juventus 1-0 in the last-16 in a match that saw Trent Alexander-Arnold register his first assist for the club by setting up Gonzalo Garcia’s winner and Kylian Mbappe make his first appearance of the competition.
Dortmund edged past Monterrey 2-1 but saw Jobe Bellingham pick up a yellow card that leaves him suspended from the quarter-final, and unable to face his older brother Jude. Follow updates from the Club World Cup below

Revenge on the mind for Borussia Dortmund?
20:30 , Jamie BraidwoodReal Madrid qualified for the Club World Cup by winning the 2024 Champions League final at Wembley, against tonight’s opponents Borussia Dortmund.
Dani Carvajal and Vinicius Jr scored the goals as Real Madrid won their 14th European Cup. It was the second time Dortmund had lost a final at Wembley, following their 2013 defeat to Bayern Munich.
These teams also met last season in the Champions League league phase. Dortmund led 2-0 at the Bernabeu but Madrid roared back in typical fashion to win 5-2 and deny Dortmund their revenge.
Do they get it tonight?

Last time out: Dortmund beat Monterrey in thriller
20:15 , Jamie BraidwoodBorussia Dortmund held off a stirring second-half fightback from Monterrey to complete the Club World Cup quarter-final line-up with a 2-1 win in a round-of-16 thriller.
Clinical finishes from Serhou Guirassy in the 14th and 24th minutes put Dortmund on top at the break but German Berterame hit back for Monterrey in the 48th minute and the Mexican club pressed for an equaliser until the final whistle. The Dortmund defence held firm, however, to set up a last-eight meeting with 15-time European champions Real Madrid in New Jersey.

Trent Alexander-Arnold remembers Diogo Jota
20:00 , Jamie BraidwoodIt’s been a difficult week for the football world after the death of Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva, but former Liverpool vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold was left heartbroken by the passing of his team-mate.
"It’s so difficult to find the right words when your head and heart are struggling to accept that someone you care so much about has gone," Alexander-Arnold posted on Thursday night.
"Diogo, your family was your world. They were everything. For Rute, his children, and his parents, all of our hearts are broken. And for Andre as well. Brothers and best friends."When it’s less painful, I want to remember Diogo with a big smile.
"So many laughs and happy moments. He was such a great teammate and a true friend."Forever number 20. Rest in peace, Diogo."

Last time out: Trent Alexander-Arnold sets up first Real Madrid goal
19:45 , Jamie BraidwoodReal Madrid hit their stride at the Club World Cup on Tuesday, edging Juventus 1-0 to reach the quarter-finals thanks to a second-half strike from academy graduate Gonzalo Garcia as Kylian Mbappe made his tournament debut.
Garcia, deputising for Mbappe after the France forward missed the group stage due to gastroenteritis, found the back of the net early in the second half to set up a meeting with either Borussia Dortmund or Monterrey.
Garcia headed home from Trent Alexander Arnold's pin-point cross in the 54th minute for his third goal in the tournament.

Why Jude Bellingham won’t face brother Jobe in Club World Cup quarter-finals
19:30 , Will CastleJobe Bellingham may want to steer clear of tackling when the clock ticks over to the 28th minute of his next match.
The midfielder was on track to face his brother Jude of Real Madrid in the Club World Cup quarter-finals but after picking up a yellow card in Borussia Dortmund's 2-1 win over Monterrey on Tuesday he will instead be looking on from the sidelines.
That booking, for a foul on Nelson Deossa, was his second of the tournament and arrived in the 28th minute at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
The 19-year-old's first yellow card came in Dortmund's 1-0 group stage win over South Korean side Ulsan HD - also in the 28th minute.

Could Kylian Mbappe return for Real Madrid?
19:15 , Jamie BraidwoodReal Madrid coach Xabi Alonso said Kylian Mbappe was edging closer to full fitness ahead of the Club World Cup quarter-finals.
Mbappe made his long-awaited debut in the tournament in the 1-0 win over Juventus as a second-half substitute following a bout of gastroenteritis that sidelined him during the group stage.
Alonso expressed optimism that the France striker would be sharper in time for Saturday's quarter-final clash against Borussia Dortmund
"I think day by day he will get better, and by the time of the quarters he should be in much better shape," Alonso told a press conference. We’ll keep checking in with him every day.”

When is Real Madrid vs Borussia Dortmund?

Good evening
19:00 , Jamie BraidwoodReal Madrid will be hoping for a repeat of the 2024 Champions League final when they reignite hostilities with Borussia Dortmund in the Club World Cup.
The Galacticos came out 2-0 victors when the two sides met at Wembley last year and go into this quarter-final as favourites off the back of a slender victory over Juventus, which saw Trent Alexander-Arnold register his first assist for his new club.
Dortmund, meanwhile, have revenge on their mind but will need a more convincing performance than the one seen in the round of 16, which saw them edge past Monterrey.
Jobe Bellingham was booked in that game which means he is suspended for the clash, denying him the chance to play against older brother Jude.
