Real Madrid to launch 'serious' Christian Eriksen transfer bid in January

Real Madrid are set to hold talks with Tottenham over a move for Christian Eriksen in the January transfer window, according to latest reports from Spain.

Eriksen was linked with Madrid throughout the summer, and has refused to sign a new contract with Tottenham.

The Danish midfielder is in the final year of his Spurs contract and looks certain to walk away in the summer - so Tottenham would no doubt prefer to cash in when the transfer window opens on January 1.

And it looks like they will have the chance to do just that, as Real are preparing a serious bid, according to a report from Spanish publication Marca .

The report says Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has ordered his most trusted advisers to seek out a suitable offer for the midfielder.

La Liga giants Real will begin discussions with Tottenham soon in order to lay the groundwork for a January move - although they will not approach Eriksen until the new year so as not to fall foul of transfer regulations.

Madrid chiefs are looking for energy, speed and power in midfield, and although Eriksen will not provide all of those, the Spanish club are believed to covet his technique, first touch and passing accuracy.

Any Madrid move for Eriksen could be bad news for Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba, who was also linked with Real throughout the summer but stayed at Old Trafford as the Red Devils stuck firm to their 180million asking price.

Eriksen this week said he was going through his "hardest time" at Tottenham with the club struggling for form, but he refused to blame speculation surrounding his future .

Eriksen is not the only member of Mauricio Pochettino's side whose contract is running down, as defenders Toby Alderweireld and Danny Rose are also in the same situation.
