Real Madrid sign £288m deal with US investment firm to host live events at newly-refurbished Bernabeu

Real Madrid have reached a £288million agreement with US-based investment firm Sixth Street over holding events at the newly-refurbished Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.

A hotel, retractable roof and a pitch that drops out to create a specially-designed area for live events are just some of the features being implemented in the ongoing reconstruction of the LaLiga champions’ home.

On Thursday, the club confirmed a 20-year deal with Sixth Street and Legends, a premium experience company catering to live events, that will allow the company to host multiple events per year at the stadium.

Sixth Street has almost £50billion of assets under its management with their investment going directly into “club activities”, according to Real - who are seeking a deal to sign Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain this summer.

A club statement read: “The transformation of the Santiago Bernabéu stadium will be a turning point in the history of Real Madrid.

“This alliance with Sixth Street and Legends, world leaders in their respective disciplines, will be fundamental in providing unique experiences in a stadium where multiple events can be hosted throughout the year.

“This agreement strengthens our goal of continuing to significantly increase the stadium's revenues from both sporting and other types of events.”
