Real Madrid's Raphael Varane and Sergio Ramos transfer plan amid Chelsea and Man United links

Real Madrid do not plan on having both Raphael Varane and Sergio Ramos at the club beyond the summer.

That's according to Spanish outlet Marca, who say that Los Blancos expect just one of the defensive duo to be at Valdebebas in time for next season.

Chelsea have been linked with both Varane and Ramos, as Thomas Tuchel looks to put his own stamp on the squad.

The former, Varane, sees his contract in the Spanish capital expire in the summer of 2022 and has been linked with a move away as a result.

The Frenchman said last month: "My future is clear, I am focused on the end of the season."

Ramos' future, however, is even more pressing, with the Madrid's contract due to expire at the end of this season - which would make him available for a free transfer.

The 35-year-old has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, with Real Madrid president Florentino Perez admitting last month that his side could lose the experienced centre-back.

Speaking to El Chiringuito, Perez said: “Sergio Ramos? I love him very much, but we are in a very bad situation. Nobody has a lot of money. We need to be realistic about what’s happened to us.”

The latest report from Spain suggests that Zinedine Zidane is already preparing for life without one of the central defenders and logic would suggest that is Ramos, if a contract cannot be agreed in the last few weeks of the season.

David Alaba has already signed for the La Liga giants in time for next season, with Zidane having the Austrian, Eder Militao and Nacho Fernandez as his "confirmed options", according to Marca.

The fourth will be one of Ramos or Varane, but Los Blancos are already looking at Pau Torres and Jules Kounde if one of them should leave the club in the summer.

It also mentions that Madrid are looking to free up some funds in order to bring Paris Saint-Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe to the club.
