Real Madrid offer 'gratitude and affection' to James Rodriguez after Colombian completes Everton switch

Real Madrid have thanked James Rodriguez for his services and commitment to the club after the Colombian completed a transfer to Everton on Monday.

James signed for Madrid from Monaco in an €80 million deal after the 2014 World Cup, but was rarely a starter under coach Zinedine Zidane and spent two seasons on loan at Bayern Munich.

The 29-year-old, who played his best football for Real under current Everton coach Carlo Ancelotti in 2014-15, made just 14 appearances for Madrid in 2019-20 and asked to be left out of the squads by Zidane towards the end of the campaign.

"Real Madrid C. F. and Everton FC have reached an agreement over the transfer of James Rodriguez," Los Blancos said on their website as the playmaker completed a switch to Goodison Park for around €25m.

"Real Madrid wants to express its gratitude and affection towards the player for all of the years he has been part of our club and wishes him all the best in this new chapter of his career."

In total, James made 125 appearances for Real Madrid across four seasons and scored 37 goals. The Colombian also won nine trophies during his time at the Santiago Bernabeu, including two Champions League crowns and two LaLiga titles.
