Reading Festival fans demand refunds as 1975 replace Rage Against The Machine

Festival-goers heading to Reading this Bank Holiday weekend are not impressed after it was announced The 1975 have replaced Rage Against The Machine.

The Los Angeles rock band were forced to cancel their forthcoming UK and European tour dates after frontman Zack de la Rocha was issued "medical guidance" after sustaining an on-stage injury last month.

The group had only returned to action just last month after an 11-year absence, kicking off a North American tour which had originally been due to start in March 2020.

"It is with great disappoint that we announce this cancellation,” the band said in their statement.

“Zack must return home for rest and rehabilitation [following the New York shows]. The flights, travel time and rigorous schedule in the UK and Europe are simply too much of a risk for a complete recovery.

"We are sorry to all of our fans who have waited years to see us, and hope to Rage again soon."

Rage Against The Machine were scheduled to headline Reading Festival on Sunday 28 August, but it will now be British band The 1975 instead.

Some ticket holders were not happy at all and took to social media saying they wanted their money back.

One person wrote to Ticketmaster: "I have a Sunday ticket to Reading Festival and would like to request a refund, as the main headliner Rage Against The Machine has cancelled and will not be performing. I would appreciate some help."

Someone else posted: "Ticketmaster. I’m pursuing a refund for Reading Festival as I have a day ticket for Sunday and the headliner, Rage Against The Machine have cancelled. Please can you help?"

A third added: " "When you bought a Sunday ticket for Reading Festival and both Rage Against the Machine and Maneskin pull out. I want a refund."

Italian rockers and Eurovision winners Måneskin announced earlier this week that they were pulling out of Reading and Leeds due to scheduling conflicts.
