Read Sunderland captain Max Power's message to fans as coronavirus suspension continues

Sunderland's stand-in captain Max Power has issued a powerful message to supporters as football's suspension in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak continues.

The Black Cats were due to face Blackpool at Bloomfield Road last Saturday as they looked to kickstart their promotion bid following a recent poor run.

However, the decision was taken to suspend all football in the country until April 4, and this deadline has since been extended until at least April 30.

As it stands, the Black Cats next fixture is at promotion rivals Rotherham United on May 3 on what was due to the final day of the season.

The absence of football will no doubt be affecting millions across the country as the UK takes increasingly stronger steps to combat the spread of coronavirus.

Power addressed Sunderland supporters on social media to admit the 26-year-old is missing the "buzz" of matchdays - but stressed the need for everyone to follow the advice given.

The Black Cats captain posted: "Missing the games, my team-mates and the buzz we all feel ahead of every weekend, but this is so much more important than football.

"Take care of your friends and family, and look after the many others in need as well.

"If we all listen to the advice being given, we’ll get through"
