Reach announces more dedicated Scottish content with new launches and editorial hires

Reach has revealed plans to expand its Scotland-based editorial operations, announcing a new Scottish Express online edition for the first time, the launch of a new Aberdeen Live site and the return of Football Scotland.

The Scottish Express site will be headed up by editor Ben Borland, who will continue to report to Scotland editor-in-chief David Dick and work closely with Express editor-in-chief Gary Jones.

In total, 12 new roles have been created to support the new site, including a head of live news and three politics writers.

Aberdeen Live follows in the footsteps of existing Scottish online newsbrands Glasgow Live and Edinburgh Live and is hiring 10 new roles, including an editor to head up the team.

Football Scotland is also set to return, with the recruitment of an editor and several other new roles creating a team of eight journalists.

Reach is also recruiting for additional roles for the Daily Record, Edinburgh Live and Glasgow Live.

Scotland editor-in-chief David Dick commented: “This is a great time to be expanding our journalism across Scotland - we have a strong sense of what our readers want and how to deliver it, and are excited to be bringing more Scottish voices and insight to the fore.”

On the new launches he added: “The Express is a Scottish press institution with a loyal print readership across the country, so I am delighted we are now bringing Scottish Express content to our digital platforms and I am certain this will quickly become a loud and influential voice in the Scottish media landscape.

“Football Scotland will benefit from our now tried and true model for attracting and engaging large football audiences.

“Similarly, I’m looking forward to attracting a new generation of online readers to Aberdeen Live, following the successful model of our other online launches in recent years.”

The new sites are all due to launch later this year and have begun recruiting on the Reach Careers site.

Reach is the parent company of Scottish Business Insider.
