RB Leipzig 'rub hands in glee' over 'lucrative' Ibrahima Konate transfer to Liverpool

Liverpool are the favourites for RB Leipzig defender Ibrahima Konate and the Bundesliga side are “rubbing their hands in glee” at the prospect of the sale, according to a report.

Konate, 21, has been strongly linked with a summer switch to Anfield, and is understood to be one of the centre-back options that Jurgen Klopp is considering in the next transfer window.

RB Leipzig chief executive Oliver Mintzlaf declared last week that Konate’s current employers “don’t sit in the driver’s seat” regarding the player’s future as he admitted that there was an exit clause.

Sport Witness cites SportBILD as claiming that Liverpool are at the front of the queue to land the Frenchman’s signature.

Their article states: “Konate is indeed being ‘courted’ by teams in England, of whom ‘Liverpool is the favourite’.

“They explain that Leipzig can’t defend themselves from any offers as Konate has a release clause in his contract, but they’re not fussed anyway.

"In fact, they would ‘rubbing their hands in glee’ from a financial aspect as the transfer fee, which could go as high as €46m, would be a ‘windfall’.

“That’s because Konate came to the club free of charge and his agent’s cut was low, so a sale would be ‘lucrative’ for them.”
